Originally from Dublin, I’ve been living in County Kildare since 2003.
I attended my first yoga class in 2001 as a way to manage the stress of a corporate job. The weekly practice presented me with a window through which I could truly observe myself. In those 60 mins each week, nothing else mattered. It felt like I was back in touch with myself after losing contact for years! This was the beginning of a journey that would change the course of my life.
In 2003, I became a mother and my perspective on life transformed dramatically. Myself, my partner Mark, and baby Lucy moved out of the city and settled in rural Kildare. I reduced my working hours to care for Lucy and gradually embraced a more mindful, slower lifestyle. Then came baby Fred and a wedding!!
When the children were young, I discovered a creative way to practice yoga that kept them engaged and content. By transforming traditional yoga poses into animal-inspired movements, I turned my practice into a fun, family activity. The children would mimic animal shapes, turning our yoga sessions into playful adventures. Back then, there were little or no yoga classes for children. So, thanks to the encouragement of a good friend, I enrolled in a children’s yoga teacher training course. My guiding light was lit – and many other trainings followed;
2011: Rainbow Kids Yoga Teacher Training, Dublin – 30hrs
2013: Certificate in Mindfulness with Mindful schools.org
2014: Radiant Child Yoga Teacher Training, Cork – 30hrs
2014: Began practising Ashtanga Yoga under the guidance of Paul Whelan
2014: Developed the WellBeings programme for Primary Schools
2016-2017: Ashtanga Teacher Training with Paul Whelan – 200hrs
2018-2021: Diploma in Sound Healing training with Benedykt Grabowski
2021: SOMA Programme – Youth Mindfulness, Glasgow – 40hrs
2024: Yoga for the Stages of Menopause with Niamh Daly – 40hrs
2025: Yoga for Bone Health with Niamh Daly – 15hrs
Under the regular guidance of my wonderful teacher, Paul Whelan, I continue to learn from and experience the benefits of yoga asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing) and dhyana (meditation).
My passion lies in creating welcoming spaces, where people can drop out of the fast pace of life and enjoy moving, breathing and resting, with present-moment awareness. I want to help people – including children – discover their inner resources, cultivate compassion, and preserve their innate sense of wonder. I will continue to provide our community with a selection of classes, activities and workshops led by professional facilitators that are accessible to everyone. There is no fancy equipment or special clothing required. TheYurt is a simple space for simple practices to keep us connected to what is real!
Those who know me would likely describe me as an easy-going, good humoured, open-minded person – a good listener who loves working with children. My classes and workshops are relaxed and inclusive and I am always open to ideas and suggestions of how we make the most of this beautiful space.
Le meas,
Pamela
