Sound Bath Meditation

Sound Healing in a Few Words

For centuries, sound has provided a focus to meditation healing and ritual. Sound is a tool that can help us shift frequencies from the low-frequency energies of anger, guilt, sadness and fear to higher vibrations of love, acceptance, joy and peace. Sound healing works on the principle that everything in the universe is energy and vibration. Behind our perceived reality is an incredible cosmic dance of interconnected energy fields. At heart we are all ONE energy.

You may be familiar with the body’s energy centres, known as chakras or cauldrons. In Chinese medicine there is also the concept of Qi (pronounced chi) which refers to the flow of energy through the body. The frequencies of the instruments used in a sound bath correspond to the flow of energy at various locations in the body.

“The idea is that anything that goes wrong with your body corresponds to an imbalance in one of these energy centers… the sound bath can reset these centers and get your energy moving in the right way. Then the corresponding parts of your body can heal.” Dr. Karen Bond PA-C

For example, stress can result in an unhealthy flow of energy, first affecting the energy of your aura (electromagnetic field emitted by your being) and if unmanaged can manifest itself deeper resulting in ill health.

What to Expect During a Session at TheYurt

What to expect….
During our Sound Healing sessions at TheYurt, participants are provided with a yoga mat, a bolster, cushion, blanket and an eye pillow. When everyone is settled and comfortable, we begin with a guided relaxation, to help detach from the demands of the day and the distractions of the mind. Comfortably relaxed, we drift with the sounds of the instruments. The sounds and the vibrations created ripple outward to each participant, ranging from intense to soothing. Then using Tibetan bowls and tuning forks, each person receives one-on-one healing. Tibetan bowls are placed on your body and when struck, the vibrations massage the internal organs and help to restore flow in areas where energy appears sluggish or blocked. At the end of the session, you are offered a cup of warm herbal tea before heading home.

Here is some feedback from a study featured in the ‘Journal of Evidence-Based Complimentary and Alternative Medicine’
Effects of Singing Bowl Sound Meditation on Mood, Tension, and Well-being: An Observational Study Following the sound meditation participants reported significantly
  • Less tension
  • Less anger
  • Less fatigue
  • Less depressed mood
Feeling of spiritual well-being significantly increased across all participants
This meditation type may be especially useful in decreasing tension in individuals who have not previously practiced this form of meditation.

“Participants aged 40 to 59 years appeared to especially benefit from the sound meditation. This age group demonstrated the largest reduction in physical pain and a strong reduction in tension, especially for those who were previously naïve to this type of meditation.”

The power of sound is being rediscovered from both scientific and spiritual viewpoints.
